Preserving baseband and installing iOS 5 to use Geveys SIM - For beginners

I'm a beginner too :) Please bear with me, I'm writing whatever I did in simple language.

I used to have an Apple iPhone 4 with iOS 4.3.5 and baseband 4.10.1. (Guess these are the pre-requisites, especially the baseband and I have heard it should be below 4.10.1)

Please take a back up and also, don't forget that you need the carrier sim to which your phone is contracted for activating the phone after iOS 5, and you'll need to hacktivate otherwise(not sure, please google)

1. Download iOS 5 for your iPhone & make sure you’ve iTunes 10.5

2. Download sn0wbreeze 2.8b8 from ih8sn0w.com

3. You get a zip file. Extract the file and open the software.

4. Click on the blue arrow. You get the below screen.



5. Now you drag the IPSW file into the place. You'll get the below screen


6. Now click on the blue arrow again. Click on the baseband preservation mode


7. Click on the blue arrow to continue after selecting the baseband preservation mode.

8. Click Yes to proceed.

9. Now, the IPSW will start extracting. Wait for some time till it extracts completely. It might take some time. On completion, you'll see an IPSW file in your Desktop.

10. Now you need to follow the options on snowbreeze. It asks you to connect the phone and switch it off and then hold the power and home button for some time and then only the home button.

11. Once you do it properly it reaches the RECOVERY mode ( google for images)

12. Now in iTunes 10.5 click on shift and click on Restore.

13. Wait till iOS 5 is installed and do as instructed in iTunes. You have to insert the carrier sim to activate the phone.

14. Once activated the phone has iOS 5. Now I'll tell you how to use Gevey's.

15. Please don't insert the sim while switching on, it will show as no sim installed.

16. Once the phone is on, insert the sim and the network will go to NO SERVICE.

17. Now dial 112 and end the call and switch on and off airplane mode in Settings once.

18. You will get the list of things to be done with a black screen and an accept button.

19. Dial 112 again and end the call and switch on and off the airplane mode and you will get SIM FAILURE message. Click OK and wait.

20. Wait till the NO SIM CARD INSTALLED message comes by and click on the OK again and immediately switch on and off the airplane mode. Again a SIM FAILURE message comes and you can click on OK again. Now, the carrier goes to searching and finds the proper network. Now you can turn 3G on.
