How proud are you??

It's 9 oscars this time for Indian-based movies, 8 for Slumdog Millionaire (2 for AR Rahman and 1 for Reshul Pookutty) and 1 for Smile Pinki. Proud of it?? or do you still have some criticism for Slumdog Millionaire cos it portrayed India in bad light?

I watched the Oscars right from the red carpet till the end and I felt that all the awards were perfectly justified and SDM deserved it! I'm so proud of Rahman, who talked in Tamil at the Oscars.

Criticism about SDM is welcome cos I've not got even a small hint of why Indians are making such a fuss with it's name!??

And Smile Pinki, it's an amazing amazing documentary! I got it from one of my friends and it was really really moving! It tells the story of two poverty-stricken young children (one a girl named Pinki) in India who are born with clefts and have the opportunity to receive free surgery to fix their condition

Watch it if you can, although there are presently no torrents available! :(

  6. I watched Slumdog last week and was completely blown away by it. The storyline was simply unique and brought something different to the table. Plus its a really good take of the classic Cinderella story without making it too cliche.

  13. hey Sri, that was an amazing question, but yea, here's my answer!

what I thought about the title was it was apt, what other title can you put?? SLUMTIGER MILLIONAIRE?? would you be happy if it was that?

We, Indians have a negative in slums and this movie was based in the slums. Don't you think people in slums don't have anything and literally equal to dogs, no offence, and this movie just brought out the helplessness of the slum people! This might atleast force the govt to do something bout it !

And why do people want to go into history and stuff, Danny Boyle's great grandpa may have ruled India, does that make him a dictator or something? He's a super cool movie director and we've to appreciate his work!

And for your question if they were Indian movies, it definitely is not! why do you want it to be Indian? It's based here and most of the cast are from India and out of the 8 oscars, 3 go to Indians and 1 to the movie, that makes it 4! This shows that Indians constitute more than half of the movie..

without doubt, SDM was the best movie of the year! what other movie do you think deserves such credit??

and like you said, JAI HO FOR THE OSCARS TOO :):)

  16. I am seriously happy for SDM, i think we indians have developed it as a culture to make it a big issue over small topics.. If India is portrayed as bad, then those are parts of reality, there are millions of slums out there, has anyone bothered. No!! So its about that time someone did..
