This incident is pretty much about one of the most hated sector in our country,(or lets say Chennai, in particular) the AUTO DRIVERS!! I have been having this really bad experience with most auto drivers here!! They charge exorbitantly and it simply is the most basic reason for them being so hated!! There are really lots of incidents where I could've paid a lot lesser than they charged but... it happens!! Every Chennaiite will agree with me!! And if the petrol costs rise, it will definitely be termed among the most harrowing days by an auto rickshaw traveler!! These days I generally shun autos and use my two wheeler, my car or the public transport buses!!
Yea, after all this, the other day I had to take a share auto and I really had no other choice (Well, a share auto is a Chennaiite innovation where five or six people share for a drive in an auto and it only runs between fixed distances and they charge each person a meagre Rs.10) !! So thinking of the cheaper cost, I got into the auto and was traveling to my place and on the way, a small fellow with some flowers (prolly a flower vendor of very small age) got into our auto!! We had traveled a little distance and the fellow wanted to get down.. He got down and his hands went deep into his shirt's torn pocket and finally his eyes gleamed, he had got a 10rs note!! He offered it to the auto driver, and the auto driver to my surprise flatly refused it!! I was surprised and awed by this act of the auto driver!! I've never known them to be generous and when this kinds of things happen, the entire hatred towards the auto rickshaw community was wiped and it kind of cleared my bad imaginations about them!!
There are people like the one i mentioned and there are people who just squeeze the money out of you and let you feel harassed... If you are in Chennai or plan to come here some time, I just hope that you get a nice hearted auto driver driving you around the city!!
On my life, it's been a pretty nice week!! My exams were just about ok!!I guess I'll manage a 50 percent pass!! And the weather over here is awesome!! We don't see showers in this part of the world in March, so it has had a cooling effect and the climate is just perfect!!
wow... how nice and considerate...here we dont have autorickshaws at all.. I was fascinated by them when i came to india..@@ :)

ReplyDeleteI bet that was totally unexpected. It's nice to think that such considerate people are still around. Must have made that flower vendor's day!
