Well, this is one festival that I find amusing!
What happens on this day is everyone starts cleaning their house and this is a part of the rituals! Then there happens a small worship(pooja) at home! After that everyone goes outside and starts cleaning all their vehicles. And they make sure that all their vehicles are spotless and then do a small pooja for their vehicles ! This is done in almost every Hindu home! So the whole point of the festival is making the house and your vehicles spic and span!
But then, there are a few oddities which is common place! You can see autos and cars inbetween two plantains of banana (they tie it up on the sides as a part of the ritual). Then you can see squeezed lemon scattered on the roads (that were squeezed by the vehicle after the pooja as a part of the ritual)! Then finally you see broken coconuts and pumpkins which are red inside (because of the holy powder that they put inside) !!
This time around, we didn't celebrate this one as much as others do! It was just another day with a few poojas. Btw, for all those who didn't know, I don't actually believe in God anymore! I've turned atheistic! So even if there were big celebrations, I'm not going to be a part of it! This was just to wish all others who're religious and all that! And the photo has an auto with very small plantains (unusually small, there are others who drive inbetween two trees and it's not an exaggeration)!
hahaha! good post, had seen the workers doing puja today :D and by the end of it dad's vehicle looked like devil's coupe!
